Fraser and Mowbray are first to the Broughton brewery, 26 September
Sep 26, 2009

From race organisers Pete and Elsie Baxter:

The 26th Two Breweries was again blessed with wonderful weather, and even some sun! The cool westerly was not as bad as forecast and the rain stayed away.

The race was won by Scott Fraser (2:47:30), fresh from his exploits with the British Orienteering team at the World Championships. Second was Andy Symonds with Tom Owens third. First V40 was Stuart Whitlie (5th overall) with recently turned V50 Colin Donnelly close behind in 6th. Megan Mowbray was first lady, followed home by V40 Jacqui Higginbottom and Louise Burt.

As this was the first year under new management there was a certain trepidation about putting on such a prestigeous event and not making a mess of it. Help and support from Bill and Simon and the rest of the previous organisers was excellent. I dont think we let them down. We received continuing support from villagers in Broughton and hillrunners from elsewhere. We had one Marshal for every five runners, not to mention Moffat Mountain Rescue, who seemed to be everywhere!

Once again both Breweries involved gave us the perfect, photogenic start and an excellent and tasty liquid finish. Thanks to Lady Catherine at Traquair and Alastair Mouat from Broughton Ales.
