Junior Competitions
|
|
A training weekend has already been held from 4-6 January 2008 at the Wanlockhead Outdoor Centre near Moffat. It was designed to cater for all endurance athletes wishing to develop their hill running abilities. Junior athletes (over 12) were especially welcome and all sessions were designed to be suitable for their capabilities. It is hoped to repeat this event in January 2009.
Information on the 2008 weekend
The 2008 scottishathletics Junior Championship will take place at Ben Lomond on Saturday 10 May using the same Junior courses as in 2007. The Championship is open to members of scottishathletics.
The categories are U19 (defined as born 1989–1991), U16 (born 1992 or 1993), U14 (born 1994 or 1995).
2007 Results are here
The scottishathletics Junior Hill Running League was introduced several years ago to encourage competitive
opportunities for Junior hill runners. In 2008, the League will follow the same successful format of recent years.
Athletes will be awarded points based on their best two results of the three nominated League races, which are:
| 1 - |
Scottish Junior Championship, Ben Lomond, 10 May. This is also the first of the two "Marco Germanetto" International selection races. |
| 2 - |
Scolty Junior race, Banchory, 1 June. This is the second of the two "Marco Germanetto" International selection races. |
| 3 - |
Junior Home International selection race, Bonaly, near Edinburgh, 21 September. |
The League is open to members of scottishathletics. The categories are U19 (born 1989-1991), U16 (born 1992 or 1993), U14 (born 1994 or 1995). There are also male and female team competitions. Scoring teams are made up of the top three scoring athletes in each
Club, from any age group.
Points are awarded to the first 18 individuals in each category, with points for the team competition
following the same scoring format: 1st place 25 points, 2nd 20 points, 3rd 17 points, 4th 15 points,
5th 14 points, reducing at one point intervals down to 18th 1 point. As a bonus, all athletes and
teams who complete all three league races will be awarded an additional two league points.
2007 Final Standings
The Hill Running Commission has drawn up a set of guidelines for junior hill races, which can be read and downloaded here.
It is particularly important to note that there are rules which govern the maximum distances that juniors can race. If you are under 18 on January 1st in the year of competition you cant race more than 10k on the hills - and the guidelines detail the limits for younger age groups.
