| The Policy |
|
The Scottish Hill Runners policy provides £5m public liability insurance and £1m professional indemnity insurance for its members, officers and volunteer helpers in connection with their hill running activities. The cover is through brokers Towergate and underwriters Sportscover Syndicate 3334 at Lloyds. The cover applies to race organisers who are members of SHR, and to race competitors who are members of SHR. It also applies to identified race marshals and other helpers who are not members of SHR. It is restricted to permanent UK residents. Local UK law applies.
Validity is UK-wide. An excess of £250 applies to third party property damage. There is a copy of the Policy Schedule here.
The policy can only apply to hill races in the conventional sense, i.e. not to "adventure races" such as 2-day mountain marathons, or to multi-disciplinary events such as bike/run.
Race organisers must be SHR members and must sign a declaration that they will impose the safety code published by Scottish Hill Runners. Non-compliance will jeopardise any claims and will be investigated by the committee. Non-compliance with safety
rules by competitors must be treated very seriously (it is also cheating of course). This is vital to our credibility with our insurers. Members may inspect the details of the policy and seek clarification of any issues with the SHR Committee in the first instance.
Race organisers wishing to use SHR Insurance for their race should complete a safety sign-off document. It is available for download as a Word file and as a pdf file. It must be returned to SHR for validation at least one week before the event.
