Great Wilderness Challenge 16 Aug 2014
Aug 19, 2014

From Alex Macrae

On a day of almost incessant rain, blustery headwinds and courses holding a lot of water – and debris - as the result of the previous weekend’s monsoon, the races went ahead as planned, with understandably slower times this year. The races provided three new winners, with Ross Bannerman (Highland Hill Runners) taking the 25 mile victory on his 10th appearance at the event. Melanie Gaff (Wester Ross AC) won the ladies race on her debut. The 13 mile race was won by previous winner Chris Scott-Park from Gartocharn and Ist Lady was newcomer Aisling McGhee from Glasgow. Special thanks go to all the marshals and helpers, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue, HM Coastguard and PDG Helicoptersfor ensuring a safe and successful event in unseasonal conditions.

Please see results section for the 13 and 25 mile events

Just over 100 runners turned out for the first of the long counters for the SHR championship with 87 runners completing the full course of nine Munros around the Glenshee ski centre. Conditions were generally favourable for the lead runners, but the weather deteriorated to heavy showers for the later finishers.

Gleenshee 9 race on Sunday - SHR Champs race
Aug 01, 2014
Just a quick reminder that the Glenshee9 on Sunday is the first long race in the SHR champs for 2014. There is still time to place an entry on line, which is preferable for the organiser, but there will also be entries available on the day on a first come first served basis.

SHR Scottish Hill Running Championship after Dollar
Jul 02, 2014
With the Dollar being a combined British, SHR and SAL Championship race there was a big and very high quality field, with lots of people taking the chance of ticking off another race towards their championship completion.

Interestingly in both the men’s and the women’s veteran classes, each age categories has someone who has won both races so far (apart from men’s over 70), while the Senior category is much more open for both men and women and a lot depends on who among the front runners does enough of the races. The latest listings can be accessed via the Championship menu to the right but are also linked from here:
