A very successful if slightly damp inagural double race weekend was held on the Isle of Eigg.
Gareth Green was quickest overall seconds ahead of Adrian Davis. First Lady was Louise Crilly.
Winners were presented with Eigg shaped cakes and other local produce provided other spot prizes. The only serious injury was picked up at the Saturday night Celidh.
I am hoping that this will now develop into a 'Small Isles' Hill Series next year, incorporating Eigg , Rum and Knoydart

The 2012 Junior Hill Running League’s first race took place in bright and dry conditions on East Lomond on 15th April. The event drew a bigger field than last year, with 40+ runners from 13 clubs – special mention to Strathearn Harriers, who brought along a magnificent nine! The new routes took in the summit and south side of East Lomond, along bridlepath, track and open grassland, and there were some fiercely fought contests as runners set out their stall for the season and the next league race at Ben Lomond on May 12th.

From organiser Stuart Simpson...
Alan Smith rounded off another one of his hill running orgies by doing the unforgiveable and beating the organiser to win this years race. Impressive given he had done Clachnaben the day before and Normans Law earlier on. First Lady, Emma Oshea and a big thanks to Emma for the easter eggs that she appeared with for the prize giving. I intend to get my revenge on Alan for this in the manner that members of the Clan Macleod of Lewis are accustomed to, by doing a raid to the mainland to burn his house down and steal his reindeer

Adam Anderson, race organiser for the SHR Championship race at Durisdeer has asked for race entries to be sent in by the start of June. It may be a while away but as Adam says
"it would help the organiser if competitors could pre enter by the 9th June. Would be a travesty if there wasn't enough cakes to go round."

One of the hazards of off-road running in the summer can be ticks, which can spread Lyme Disease (Borreliosis) and other diseases. 26 March to 1 April was Tick Bite Prevention Week and tick-borne disease charity BADA-UK (Borreliosis and Associated Diseases Awareness-UK) is highlighting the health risks that ticks pose.
